Top James Bond Cars

This was one of those weekends when James Bond movies are played in a marathon like loop.  During one of the commercials in between they started talking about the top James Bond Cars ever.

I was somewhat surprised to see that they were almost entirely focused on recent James Bond Movies as opposed to the older movies with Sean Connery and Roger Moore.  I kind of suspect there was a bit of commercial product placement going on.  In my opinion the cars of James Bond movies in recent years have been a little tame.

Sure they are beautiful cars and can probably run circles around the cars from 30-40 years ago, but there is just something a little less dramatic about them.

Personally my favorite cars are the Aston Martin DB5 from Thunderball with Sean Connery, and then there is that submersible car that Roger Moore drove into the Mediteranean.

Those seemed like spy cars to me with all the romantic notions of suspense and gadgets and out of this world technology.  The recent stuff like the BMW that Pierce Brosnan drove by remote cellular phone can be had by just about anyone these days.

The run flat feature didn’t even seem that cool.  I had a humvee and a 5 ton truck with the same feature when I was in the Army, big deal!Note the number plates on this James Bond amphibious Car

Truth be told I will probably not end up with a submersible amphibious sports car, nor a DB5 anytime soon, but maybe someday I’ll pick up a car with the same number plates at least.  That does seem to be one of those trends that just doesn’t let up.  Accessorizing your techno thriller spy car just wouldn’t be the same if you end up with a less than cool number plate on the vehicle.

Don’t Let the bad taste of strong technology Medicine sway you from learning how to improve your finances

Last month I spent a couple weeks working on my finances.  Specifically I was working to consolidate some debts into some cheaper loans.  Every few months and sometimes even every few years I find it necessary to fine tune my finances, my debt, my credits, my investments in many other aspects of my life.  I am actively involved in managing my finances on a day-to-day basis, but sometimes I find it necessary to take a step back and look at the big picture and make some choices about the directions I will need to take to maximize my results.

So last month after letting things run for several months on their own without too many corrections and cores, I decided to make some moves to make some dramatic changes and improvements in the course of my finances.  These types of changes are never entirely easy however technology is making it easier these days.

In my situation, I consolidated several different types of loans with a larger loan at a lower interest rate and the longer-term.  This served to reduce the number of pills I have to pay every month, it saves me money and interest and it also reduces the amount of cash flows I “have to pay” every month.  Right now I’m in the middle of starting up a new business and I need and desire the flexibility of having lower monthly payments and fewer bills to pay.  Saving money was just a bonus but a very important bonus.

After consolidating loans, the new loan was supposed to send funds via a electronic wire three to the accounts that were being paid off.  Unfortunately the technology failed in this didn’t work.  So I had to take the funds and establish an online banking account to make payments from the larger accounts each of the smaller accounts paying them off.  This worked fine on two accounts but the wires got crossed on the third account and it took probably another two weeks to straighten out the ensuing mass from the technology going wrong when I was trying to fix the technology that previously gone wrong.

Murphy’s Law plays a very active role in both finances and in technology people looking to improve their finances shouldn’t be put off by the fact they could probably will run into complications along the way.  It’s still important to make those corrections and improvements in your finances regardless of how hard it is to fix things.  Take the strong medicine, it may not taste great but you be better for it.

I do a considerable amount of research on a daily weekly and monthly basis on finance.  I also happen to have a double major in finance and accounting and a Masters in tax law, but I always find new and useful information to either enlighten me or give me a new perspective on ways I can do things better.  What I’m trying to say is the matter how much you know or how much you done you can always make improvements and find good advice.

There are many resources online that can help you to find good advice.  You can easily find good advice on debt consolidation tips and you might even take a look at several of the specific articles including the article on understanding credit card statements. I am a trained accountant and I still run in the credit card statements sometimes it gives me pause and make me reread them two and sometimes three or four times to ensure that I truly understand what it is the credit card companies are trying to tell me and what they’re trying to hide from me.

Tranquility Now by Chartering a Yacht

I was originally born in the Midwest, and the first that comes to mind when I think of Crewed Yacht Charters is the theme song to Gilligan’s Island, “a three hour toooouuuuurrrrrr. . . ”

The next thing I think about is a honeymoon a friend of mine took, where he and his new wife chartered a yacht to sail around in the Caribbean. And that seemed a lot cooler than Gilligan’s Island.

After living in South Florida for several years, the concept of taking a yacht out on the ocean or the Gulf of Mexico with a crew that knows what they’re doing does some pretty interesting. I’m not a sailor and I definitely don’t know what I’m doing out of the ocean, but that doesn’t mean I would not enjoy it.  Especially if I were in the capable hands of people that did know what they were doing.

Personally, I can’t envision having a lot of fun on a cruise ship with the exception of eating way too much. I’m sure it would be fun.  I would much rather enjoy the serenity of being on a smaller yacht closer to the water with a lot more privacy rather than staying in a floating hotel several stories over the ocean, you can get that view from a condo in Boca.

I could envision myself hanging out on the deck looking over the Caribbean possibly even doing a little writing or reading as we sail from port to port.

Tranquility now…

Looking for the Right Cable for the Job

Working from home, I constantly keep all the right tools for the job close.  One of the most important things to have is the right cables.

The right monitor cables, the right network cables, the right USB cable, synchronization able, power cable, adapter, converters and more.

There are times when I need a 20 foot monitor cable and other times when I have to rotate through multiple usb devices.  When I am working on a podcast or video podcast production the need for the right cables for the job grows infinitely more.

The great thing about working from home is that you don’t have to worry about a purchase authorization from a manager that doesn’t understand and you do not have to worry about office pilferage.  Plus, you don’t have to schlepp cables back and forth to the office.  You can keep everything right there on hand.

Working from Home and Eating

After working in a high rise for a number of years, I grew very accustomed to eating very very well while at the office.  Working from home, I’ve initially devolved back to a simpler maturity of my pallette something akin to my military or college days where the microwave ruled my diet.

Later I had to learn how to improve my cooking abilities.  This probably started with simple things like buying a pizza stone, a simple attempt to move from frozen pizza to something better.

Using this as a foundation I then channelled my passion for technology and found other areas where we could upgrade our cookware to enable me to at least perceive a greater cooking capability.

This possibly pseudo cooking confidence ultimately gave me the thing I needed to experiment with . . . the key ingredient to cooking, the ingredients.

With all that time I save from commuting I have more time to make myself a decent breakfast or lunch or dinner, rarely all three in a single day.  The final result is that I have learned to bring some of the good from those great 4 and 5 star restaraunts home.
