Using Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 On a Windy Day
Lots of people cover ideal uses for technologies, software programs, computers and services, but almost no one works in ideal situations all the time. So today, I put together a little video using Dragon Naturally Speaking 10 out on my Dock Office here in North Carolina where we have winds blowing at 10-20 miles per hour. I am using a noise cancellation microphone headset that I purchased at Office Max for about $25 after tax.
Here’s the video of Dragon NaturallySpeaking 10 in Action
Editing On Windy Day-Dragon Naturally Speaking 10
As you can see from these two videos, Dragon did pretty good getting my words right even when the wind was blowing pretty hard in the microphone. I did notice a hesitancy (especially when editing) when the wind blew in my microphone at the same time that I was speaking but Dragon usually still managed to get things right.

I have upgraded to Preferred 10 and am having issues when I ask it to transcribe from an audio file. The sound of charts moving cancels out words or causes them to be misinterpreted. I am wondering what settings you have that corrects that issue, considering you are working where there are winds and other sounds that could interfere. Thanks for your help. Robby

Hi Robby,
What exactly do you mean by
?
I’m not sure if it is relevant but it might be.
Also, what type of microphone are you using and do you have some sort of wind screen on it?
I record at 48kbs with my mobile device. I don’t recommend going much higher nor lower if you are using an MP3 format. Also it does help if you go through your first mobile files and correct the mistakes using the dragon correction tools (not just typing in corrections). This seems to help dragon ‘learn’ from the voice mistakes so that the system can work better next time.
If you establish a separate profile for your mobile transcriptions that could help as well, especially if you are using a different microphone for mobile verses what you use when transcribing with voice directly into your computer. Hope that helps, but if you can share some more details I might be able to help you trouble shoot more.
