I was surprised to hear about your difficulty with large maps. I use Mindgenius and have no trouble managing the large maps I use for business and project planning. The key is the outline-style navigation pane, which is visible at the same time as the map. Its levels are expandable/contractible. When you click on a branch (topic) in the navigation pane, the map centers on that branch. You can move branches around either in the map pane or the navigation pane. This makes it very easy to move around in a large map. I don't know if other mindmapping programs have this feature, but it's a deal-breaker for me. It would be great if Mindmanager added it.

Brett,

No BS: Big maps turn into a b*tch sooner than later. Ever since MindManager 6, I seem to be turning to the hierarchical topic layout more and more. From there, I try to be ruthless in sending rapidly expanding topics to new maps quickly. Hierarchical topics + Ruthless pruning has allowed me to keep rapidly flowering maps manageable.. it just feels like cellular division and biology.

Results are the hard part, of course... :)

Thanks for all the detail. Is the "personal injury lawyer" link at the end significant?

Thanks Robin,

I hope so too. Even more than just listening, I hope they achieve some results based on this as well as on the continuing discussion on this topic in the Yahoo Group for MindManager
