Beginner’s Guide to PPC Management

For publisher, web masters and blogger, it is easy to install a little bit of Adsense code and install it on a web page.

For advertisers its a different story.  It takes a little more know how and experience to run a successful PPC campaign.

I personally advise that new advertisers start very small and get some experience with the system.  Do not expect big results from starting small, look at it more like paying for a lesson in navigating Google’s Adwords program or Yahoo!’s publisher program.

Once you have a feel for how to navigate things and purchase advertising campaigns then you will be ready for some more advanced options.

In that regard I’d recommend doing some additional web research to get your bearings.  A good place to start to get the overview is the Beginner’s Guide to PPC Management.  Its a free white paper.   Its not a download its just a web page :)

This guide can help you get started and focused in the right direction and you can expand from there.  If you represent a large company looking to run a major advertising campaign, then I recommend hiring a Pro SEM marketing company that specifically specializes in PPC campaigns.  Regardless, before you hire the pro I do think its good to get a feel for how these things work so that you can better understand the parameters and the work involved.

This understanding will help you ask better questions and scope out the job more appropriately.

American Express Caught in Money Laundering Probe

A little story that has slipped under the radar involves American Express.  According to the July issue of Forbes, American Express has disclosed that they have set aside $60 million to fight off money laundering and was cooperating with the Justice Department.  The DEA has separately disclosed that it is their investigation that involves American Express and that it involves Black Market Exchange Accounts.

This involves a complex web of Colombian drug dealers for example providing American Cash to Colombian importers purchasing something that can readily be sold again any where in the world.  Like cigarettes.

They purchase the cigarettes from a US wholesaler and arrange through a middle man to pay in US currency.  They pay a middle man in pesos, the middle man swaps out the pesos for dollars and pays the US wholesaler in dollars.  The wholesaler makes a trip across the border to collect payment, comes back and deposits the funds in a US bank.

The middle man gives the pesos to the drug dealer.

Money Laundered

It has not yet been described how much American Express is involved in this investigation nor how they are cooperating.

Samsung Cranks up Line to Produce 64GB SSDs

Samsung started their manufacturing lines running off the 1.8 inch 64GB Flash Solid State Disk (SSD).  This is twice as big in storage space as their current SSD product, the 32GB SSDthat retails for about $600.

The speeds on these hard drives are ridiculously fast, they consume low amounts of power, weigh less, take up less space and could soon start to own about 1/3 of the UMPC market and about 1/4 of the notebook market.

My mouth waters just thinking about how much of a performance boost I could get from the speed and how much more battery life I could expect without a hard drive to spin up.

The price is going to be high, but I’m looking forward to the day when that price and all the other component prices comes down to a reasonable level.  Then its off to the notebook races!

Getting Attention with a Good Keynote Speaker

Sometimes when you have worked for the same company for a long period of time, it gets difficult to listen to the same old corporate ‘go get ‘em’ speach from the same corporate SVP, COO, CEO, CFO, CTO, etc.

Their job is to take charge and keep the company running, but being a professional speaker is not always necessarily their primary talent.  That lends many companies to call in a switch hitter for motivational speeches and seminars, hiring in well known comedians, actors, motivational speakers and more.

You don’t have to have a friend of a friend in Hollywood to make these types of arrangements.  This is the world run on the internet.  You can make arrangements for your company to host entertainment speakers speakers easily by sourcing a speaker through InternationalSpeakers.com.  You can hire comedians like George Carlin or Keenan Wayans.

Or you can go more business like and hire in Jack Welch or Jim Cramer through their opportunities to bring in speakers that also have recently released a best selling book.

You can even hire a former President such as Jimmy Carter.

Fees for speakers range from under $10k to over $50k (for Jimmy Carter for example).

You will definitely have to consider both your audience, your message and your venue, but if you can get the message across the results might be priceless.
