Maui Photo Map
Its been too long since I last visited Hawaii or the tropics or even semi-tropics for that matter. I visited Hawaii last in 2001 and I moved from South Florida in 2002. I am definitely home sick for a tropical environment.
I got caught up in the memories a bit today when I was doing some research on ecotourism. Basically, its a new slant on the tourism industry. Its one where people take vacations to visit a place, learn more about the environment, gealogy, history, culture and plants and animals in an area as opposed to only going to the them park du jour.
Here’s a map I put together of some of the sights I did not see on my last trip. These are places or things in Maui that I’d like to see next time around.
On my first visit we rented a beach house for a week and it was a fantastic experience. This time, I’d really like to just sleep next to this waterfall.![]()
I have a suspicion that sleeping by a waterfall in Maui may not be allowed or possibly my Diet Coke laden system would be detrimental to the environment. Funny thing, on my last Hawaii vacation there was no real reason to get pepped up and I tend to avoid caffeine. Its not something I do on purpose, just a nice healthy side effect. Maybe it has something to do with the influence of the beautiful environment. Maybe its just the need for my body to detox, especially after the long flight.
The last place I would stay however would be in a hotel. You lose too much of the local flavor and sense of a place when you stay in a hotel. Its kind of like flying half way around the world to eat at McDonalds. I’d much rather prefer to bunk down in some cozy little beach villa.
During my research I got a little side tracked and came across some interesting looking places called the wailea makena condos as well as a number of options for booking a Kauai condo last minute. Something like that would definitely be pretty nice and relaxing.
