Significance

If true this would indicate that Apple is attempting a full court press on the mobile phone market. In this shot this device if truly ‘very very small’ might go up against the other slim phones in the market including the sliver or Razr. The keyboard hints at other potential smart phone capabilities which might give it computing capabilities to even allow it to go up against the Q, however so far no indications about the email capability has been described.

As such it may be more of a phone for the iPod market, looking to text, listen and talk. Its unclear what Apple’s proprietary iTunes marketplace might do to mobile phone carriers attempting to compete in this same area, but if they opt for the join them if you can’t beat them option, then the carriers have very little to loose and lots of happy iTunes customers to please.

The iPhone will probably be released at MacWorld in January, while the other major phone manufacturers and carriers are tooling away at CES. As such, MacWorld might just steal a little more thunder from CES this year than is normal.

Note also the price points and how they stag up to the older iPods at retail APPLE 30GB iPod - Black - $249.00
