Are you prepared for Visually impaired Page Rank Ratings from Google?

USWeb posted a release about search engine optimization for the visually impaired.  Preparing websites for the visually impaired is the law in the United Kingdom but across much fo the internet it has been somewhat of an after thought.

Google is beta testing a new formula in its notorious Page Ranking evaluator.  The Page Ranking evaluator is a little bar in the google toolbar that describes the relative rank or strength of a website based on how important the page appears to the rest of the internet.

The new tool ranks sites that are not designed and programmed to provide a good user surfing experience to visually impaired internet surfers using voice and other technology to read or signal items on a web page.  Web Design tools such as Dreamweaver provide designers with the capability to test their web design for usability in these areas however some newer web languages require more manual testing and some companies in a rush to push out the latest greatest technology for the masses sometimes reduces the priority on alternatives for the visually impaired.

This could become a very big marketing problem.  Companies spend a great deal of money on natural search engine optimization and marketing plans.  Its worth a lot of money when someone does a Google search and your website comes up in the top slot.  If you are number 101 in a search surfers may never find your site.

Some companies that spent a lot of time and money to get that top spot the old fashioned way may have to rework their sites to make it back to the top spot with the new beta rank.

Mobile Phones with MP3 Players

Six years many mobile phone manufacturers came to the conclusion (some arriving at the conclusion with their arms twisted behind their back) that combining or converging an MP3 player with a mobile phone would be a good idea. That was back in 2000.

Its 2006 and people are still ooohhhing and Aaahhhing about the concept of an iPhone from Apple despite the fact that the first iTunes phone came out a year ago.

Well for anyone that’s interested converged mobile phones are here and have been here for a while.

There’s some great examples of Samsung mobile phones at The Link. Something about the YPZ5Q (despite its crummy name that is pretty interesting. Its slim, has 35 hours of battery life and almost a 2 inch LCD screen. It will hold about 600 songs and that’s just the starting point for the Samsung lineup. Don’t get me started on Sony Ericson!

Microsoft Attacking Conterfeiters that sell the good with the bad

Microsoft filed lawsuits against 20 resellers in the US accused of distributing counterfeit software.

Counterfeit software in these situations either come in the form of CDs or when software counterfeit or unlicensed is installed on computers that are then resold.

Microsoft has announced that it has completed forensic analysis that found that 34 percent of copies analyzed could not be successfully installed and that 43 percent had additional programs that did not come with Windows.

So it would appear that Microsoft is helping consumers by working to remove potentially bad software and software that has unauthorized or maybe even malicious software.

For consideration:  There’s probably a good amount of truth to this concept but its spun a little as well.
