Getting time for a Digital Camcorder

I think I’m about ready to graduate to a Digital Cameras from PC World. I’ve been using my Canon Digital Elph for a couple years now. I use it to take snapshots, notes, videos of the kids and recently even short videos that I post to the web.

I’m noticing that its limited in this area and just as I surprised myself by the usefulness of this Camera (I bought it with a gift certificate that I received when I bought my wife’s Canon Digital Rebel.) I suspect that I could surprise myself again finding extra useful ways to capitalize on digital camcorder technology.

The Samsung camera from the camcorders section is a good example of a camcorder that starts to make digital video easy even for someone like myself. A self taught photographer. I’m not trying to put anything on exhibit.

But I do need and often times capture a lot of important information, knowledge and moments. Using an image correcting camcorder to help me along, just makes it that much easier. I can then quickly put together software training videos, take notes on meeting sessions and even get a better shot of the kids.

Bigger Monitors OutPerform Faster Processors

I just read a very insightful article by Paul Boutin called The Best Computer Upgrade Ever: Forget about a Faster Processor. Splurge on a Bigger Screen.

Paul talks about two different offices that he commutes to and his epiphany that he likes working at Office B with a slower machine and larger monitor.

Its a great point to make. You can speed up the machine every six months but nothing speeds up the operator like giving them more visual space to think and spread out their work and ideas.

A couple years ago, I started booking more time in the conference room when it wasn’t being used, so that I could run dual screens on my laptop and on the projector. Two years and a corporate scandal later I run my own business and have my own projector. I run dual monitors with the projector on the wall all the time.

There’s nothing like having a 5 foot tall by 7 feet wide monitor on the wall. It elliminates a great deal of eye strain. It also encourages me to get up and interact with my work thinking all the time.

Now, last year at CES I saw a fantastic projector from Canon that’s on my Christmas list this year. The resolution on this projector was nothing short of amazing and the level of detail as a result is almost shocking.

Now to challenge Paul’s premise, I’d suspect that once you start running a larger monitor capable of displaying enough detail on a screen or wall to replicate an 8 screen layout of programs (4 on top and 4 on the bottom) then you might just be interested in running to the store to upgrade your computer processor(s).

MyEclipse offering an interesting development business model

There was a time and maybe still is when an up and coming company that specialized in programming or web design would have to fork out a significant amount of money for web and software design software.

Good software tools can cost a significant amount of money.

MyEclipse is taking a shot at changing the playing field by offering a subscription based model that would allow designers, developers and programmers the ability to use tools online starting at a $29.95 per annum membership.

They features include JSP, Java, XML, UML, J2EE, Ajax and more.

Not only do they offer access, but have many visual tutorials and active forums as well

Its an interesting approach and one that many companies are trying to level the playing field. Much work in the database hosting and development area has been started already. MyEclipse ads to this by not only offering database development options but much more.

Firefox Browser Margin Increasing

Firefox inched up in August increasing its market share from 11.3 to 11.8 percent. The .5 percent increase for Firefox contrasted to a .5 percent decrease for Internet Explorer from 83.5% to 83%.

Safari and Opera also saw gains of .03 percent and .05 percent respectively.

For the same month of August 50.89% of Maven Mapper’s visitors visited with Firefox compared to 42.56% visiting with Explorer. (Mozilla 2.23%; Safari 1.79%; Opera 1.49%; netscape .74%)

Firefox like Opera and the new netscape offers tabbed browsing. It also has a fast growing group of plugins that allows users to customize their browsing experience and interact with various different web based accounts from the same screen.

Google has formed a relationship with the Firefox movement and has heavily sponsored downloads as well.
