Summer’s ending are you Ready to Learn some New Skills?
Summer is ending in the Northern Hemisphere and many people are heading back to school. Professionals need to get set to finish their years strong. Yearly evaluations may come to an end soon, year end projects, financial reporting, everything starts to wrap up over the next 4 months.
A person can get a significant amount of work done in 4 months. Its this time of year when its important to assess where we are in relation to the goals that we set out for ourselves at the beginning of the year. If we are lagging or not on track, this is the time to make a quick correction and start achieving some milestones.
Its always a good time to learn how to work a little bit smarter. No one wakes up in the morning and thinks to themselves, “I would like to do things more slowly, with less efficiency and forget my knowledge and experience and act ignorantly.” I say this because most people at least subconciously do wake up thinking just the opposite, “I wish I could get things done faster, easier, more efficiently and I’d like to be smarter by the end of the day, end of the week, end of the month and end of the year.”
Its not always an easy journey, however there’s nothing like the satisfaction of knowing that you have improved yourself, your work or your capabilities.
Resources abound on the internet and in schools and training facillities to help people improve. Most professionals today will benefit by improving their computer skills and more specifically improving their competency in the general Microsoft Office programs. For better or worse Microsoft Office is one of the leading forms of business software used as almost a universal language around the world. A person skilled in the utilization of excel, word, powerpoint, or access or any other Offcie application can work almost anywhere with almost any organization.
I regularly put away 2-3 of these courses each year. Now I have a couple degrees and a Master’s, but that never means that my training and education should stop nor that I learned everything I needed to at university. I’ve studied Word, Excel, Access, Powerpoint, VBA, Project, Visio, and FrontPage. Most recently I’ve been working through Dreamweaver and Flash courses.
There’s never a better day than today to make your life easier and work smarter. There’s always a trick or tip that can be picked up in a course that might shave minutes or hours out of your work life each day. I’ve learned tips and tricks and procedures, that have shaved 30 minutes out of my routine everyday, and I’ve learned complex programs that have permanently elliminated weeks of work from my schedule. Embracing new training can liberate employees to tackle new projects, jobs and more and help put a person on track for a more rapid career advancement or help them strengthen their own company or simply make more room in the day to spend on balancing their life with their home and families.
Working smarter and not harder is the motto of the information age. Its never too late to take some Excel courses or learn how to work with an Access database or refine a presentation with the latest version of Powerpoint.
These days courses are available to suit all lifestyles, you can take training in a classroom, or have a private trainer visit your company or take training online or on your computer.
So let’s get started, and let’s wake up tomorrow smarter and better trained than we were today.
