Sony Battery Recall Expands to Toshiba

Last week we reported that the Sony Battery recall would extend to IBM’s Lenovo Thinkpads after it was identified that the famous LAX laptop explosion resulted from a Thinkpad with a Sony battery.

The recall officially launched for Thinkpads and now it appears that it is expanding.

Dell is recalling 100,000 additional laptops and it looks as if Toshiba will join the mix soon as well.

Broadband Reports.com: Getting Your Pirated Films to Your Living Room

Broadband Reports offers up an intriguing synopsis of the current state of efforts to bring streaming video from a PC or Mac to your TV or Cable box/TiVo. Standards of course are still racing to converge and each manufacturer is working to try and get a jump on the market. This report lists the current state of things.

“As we mentioned Monday, there’s a push from hardware vendors like Netgear & D-Link to provide consumers with devices that can stream the content they’ve downloaded from their PC to their living room, stunted in part by the delay of getting the 802.11n Wi-Fi standard to market. Apple meanwhile promises their iTV service will do the same thing starting in 2007, and Microsoft offers their solution now with their Xbox 360 Media Extender. There’s obviously a slew of home-brew options available as well, from modding a first-gen Xbox to MythTV - but the real money will be made by offering a simple device aimed at Joe User.    More of this article

Save your Big Screen and Create a better Environment

Flat panel displays should not be left on with the same image on the screen. Just like a computer monitor you can burn out pixels and leave ghost impressions.

This is why you should consider running a screensaver on your TV. That said, you probably do not want a copy of flying windows going across your screen and with so much money invested in a TV, you should consider putting up some art to take advantage of the hi-tech and high quality.

An Ambient Art plasma tv screensaver can cover all these areas and protect your investment while helping set the tone or mood you are hoping to achieve whether you are home alone relaxing or throwing a party or something in between.

Lenovo Thinkpad Battery Recall - Sony is Out to Lunch

It looks like it will not be long before Lenovo issues a battery recall on Sony batteries being used in Thinkpads.

The LAX ThinkpadBomb fire that occurred a couple weeks ago has apparently been linked back to a Sony battery.  So now its just a matter of time before the recall gears get cranked up and start to run.  According to ITWire many Lenovo Thinkpad T43’s contain the same Sony Lithium Ion Batteries that forced the recall of almost 6 million Dell and Apple laptop batteries.

This soon to be latest recall will be the third large manufacturer to be impacted by Sony battery defects.  It shouldn’t take repeated laptop fires to spur on these recalls.  It raises the obvious question,

“What other manufacturer’s bought these defective batteries from Sony and why is Sony not speaking up about the problem and issuing a proactive recall before someone is hurt or worse yet killed?”

Sony is actually very very lucky. If that Thinkpad fire had actually occured on a plane, while in the air instead of in the LAX terminal, the war on terror might have refocussed its attention on the Sony board room. A company is far better off being smart and on top of a situation. Luck only lasts for so long and is not a good way to run a multinational company. Sony needs to step up and consider a larger recall campaign before more surprises pop up.
