Lily,

You make a very astute comment about the dillema posed by electronic wallets. Many of the plans and prototypes proposed over the last 12 years have included some mechanism whereby the phone would be one location where your credit card information would be stored. This would allow a user to use their phone as an electronic wallet. The option to use a credit card or debit card or check book would always be available.

The idea is that this could be more convenient for some users, just as credit cards, debit cards, and ATM card have gradually over time become more convenient than paying with cash.

The hardware designers and merchant transaction providers will have to plan for contingencies for the loss or theft of phones. An electronic wallet would have to be as secure, if not more so than a credit card or debit card is today.

Thanks,, Brett

That seems a little silly. Personally, I don't really like having all my data in one place, cause if I had something like that, and I lost my phone, I'd be screwed, but if I lost either my phone or my wallet, it wouldn't be as bad.
